The strike by the PGI nurses on Friday is part of the nationwide agitation by the All India Government Nurses Federation against the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations for the nurses. It will end at 8 am on Saturday.
PGI Nurses Association president Lakhwinder Singh said that the association was forced to strike work.
“We had already communicated to the government about our decision. They didn’t listen and made no arrangements for the institute. That is why the patients suffered due to the strike,” he said.
“I am supporting the agitation because our demands haven’t been fulfilled by the Seventh Pay Commission,” said Kanta Sharma, a nurse at PGI protesting near Nivedita hostel. “The existing benefits which we were receiving too have been reduced.”
