Professor of Indian Space Research Organisation, Bengaluru, R R Navalgund addressed a seminar on the Indian space programme at Panjab University on Monday. Navalgund spoke about three space science missions: Chandrayaan-1, Mars Orbiter Mission and Astrosat.
He said the Chandrayaan-1 showed Ind’a’s technological capabilities in sending a PSLV with 11 payloads to explore the moon and have an understanding of the evolution of the moon. He later explained the finer comparison of remote sensing of the earth and the moon.

Navalgund also spoke on the technological objectives, design and realisation of a mars orbiter with a capability to survive and perform earth bound manoeuvres, cruise phase of 300 days, mars orbit insertion and capture and on-orbit phase around mars.
Also present on the occasion was PU vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover who recalled his association with Navalgund during his days at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
Navalgund has made seminal contributions in the area of Remote Sensing and India Earth Observation Program for Disaster Management.
He is well recognised for his contributions to space science and had occupied important positions at the department of space.
