Putting an end to the ongoing speculations, Raghuram Rajan on Saturday announced he wouldn’t continue for a second term as the RBI governor.
The central bank chief said he wants to return to “academia” after his term ends in September. He was in media spotlight recently after reports suggesting PM Modi’s keen interest to retain him at the helm and other prominent business tycoons like Adi Godrej, Harish Mariwala, Rahul Bajaj, among others, firmly backing Rajan’s candidature for a second term.
BJP leader Subramanaian Swamy ran a tirade against Rajan for his policies. He shot multiple letters to PM Modi seeking Rajan’s removal as the RBI chief and, in fact, asked Modi to order CBI-led probe into the RBI’s alleged flouting licencing rules.
Swami alleged that Rajan was willfully wrecking the Indian economy and said the RBI chief was “mentally not fully Indian”. On Twitter too, the leader took out on “R3” at every possible instance. Here is a look at what Swamy tweeted in the past couple of months:
R3 has said he will go back to US. Whatever figleaf he wants for hiding the reality we should not grudge it. Say good bye!
