
India’s Dipa Karmakar almost pulled off the impossible in Gymnastics at Rio 2016 Olympics after finishing fourth in the Vaults final. She missed the bronze medal by 0.150 points.
USA’s Simone Biles won the gold medal with a score of 15.966 while the silver went to Russia’s Maria Paseka after her score of 15.253. Bronze was bagged by Switzerland’s Giulia Steingruber for her score of 15.216.
The Indian gymnast’s first vaults had a score of 6.000 in difficulty and 8.866 in execution and that made her a strong contender for a medal.
In the second vault, the Produnova, the difficult points were 7.000 but the execution gave her 8.266 points. She occupied the second position after the vaults.
Karmakar had created history when she became the first Indian to qualify for the apparatus finals. She had finished eighth in the qualification event of the Vaults with a score of 14.850 to qualify.
This capped another dismal day for India at the Rio Games as it failed to open their medal account with only for six days left.
Star badminton player Saina Nehwal crashed out of Games after losing her second game in group stage and later tennis mixed doubles pair of Sania Mirza-Rohan Bopanna lost their bronze medal play-off.

In hockey, India lost 3-1 to Belgium in the quarter-finals to crash out of the Olympics. Boxer Manoj Kumar also bowed out of the Games after his pre-quarters loss.
