Commentary
We are ready for the second chapter to unfold! The umpires are out in the middle, and so are the players of Mumbai. The skipper, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma will be the opening pairs for Delhi like every other match. Shabnim Ismail will get the job to start with the new ball with a sip and a gully. Here we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
With a modest total to defend, Mumbai's bowlers will face a daunting task. Delhi's impressive bowling and fielding display has set the tone for a thrilling contest, and it remains to be seen how Mumbai will respond to the challenge. Stay tuned for the chase...
Annabel Sutherland is up for a quick chat. She says that they tried to hold onto that catch as it was hanging in the air for a long time. Continues that they adjusted really well to the conditions of the track, and adjusted their lengths really well to pick up the wickets. Also says that they could have picked a few wickets through the middle but she is happy to end the inning well. Ends up saying that she is positive that they can chase this total.
Mumbai's struggles continued as they found themselves reeling at 83/4 inside 14 overs. Annabel Sutherland's brilliant catch to dismiss Amelia Kerr was a notable highlight, as Delhi maintained their momentum. Jess Jonassen's three-wicket haul made her the standout bowler for Delhi as they have their noses in front at the break.
An impressive bowling performance from Delhi as they restrict Mumbai to a below-par total of 123 runs! The team's fielding was also top-notch, with Shikha Pandey and Annabel Sutherland making significant contributions by dismissing Mumbai's openers. Jess Jonassen's timely intervention further tightened Delhi's grip on the game, as she claimed the crucial wickets of Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur.

Shikha Pandey to Hayley Matthews, Huge appeal for LBW and the umpire raises the finger! Hayley Matthews has instantly goes for the review now! Shikha Pandey bowls it fuller, on off and middle, zips it in toward the leg stump. The review shows that there is no bat involvement in UltraEdge, but Ball Tracking shows that the delivery is missing the leg stump. Good usage of review from the Mumbai batters!

Their starting XI boasts remarkable batters like Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning, Jess Jonassen, and Jemimah Rodrigues, along with exceptional all-rounders like Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland. While they are playing solid cricket, they’ll need to elevate their game to secure victory against their rivals. With Mumbai poised to capitalize on any opportunity, Delhi has to step up their performance to seize control of the match.
Mumbai has kicked off their campaign on an impressive note, executing their strategies flawlessly. While they faced a setback in their very first match of the Women's T20 League, they have bounced back strongly without looking back. The skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, has been nothing short of exceptional, making smart in-match decisions that have guided the team. Meanwhile, Natalie Sciver-Brunt shines not only with her stunning stroke play but also with her effective deliveries. The 20-year-old Sanskriti Gupta has been phenomenal, taking two crucial wickets in their recent clash against UP. With the team currently in top form, the big question remains: can they maintain this momentum as the tournament progresses?

... MATCHDAY ...
The penultimate game of the Bengaluru leg in the 2025 Women's T20 League features Delhi taking on Mumbai at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The last encounter between these two sides in Vadodara remains fresh in memory, with Arundhati Reddy’s full-stretch dive on the final ball securing a thrilling win for Delhi by the barest of margins. Delhi have had a mixed campaign so far but are coming off a convincing victory against Gujarat, which will give them a much-needed confidence boost as they look to build momentum. Their top order, featuring Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and captain Meg Lanning, has been the backbone of their batting. However, Jess Jonassen, promoted to number 3 in the last game, made an impact, and the likes of Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland will be eager to contribute as well. Kapp and Sutherland have made their presence felt with the ball, while Shikha Pandey has been superb both upfront and at the death, adding further strength to Delhi’s attack. As for the inaugural champions, Mumbai, they are riding a hat-trick of wins and will look to cap off the Bengaluru leg with another victory. Natalie Sciver-Brunt has been a standout performer with the bat and has excelled with the ball as well, reaffirming her status as one of the premier all-rounders in world cricket. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has played a couple of meaningful knocks, while Hayley Matthews found some crucial runs in the last game against UP. With the ball, it has been a collective effort from their overseas contingent, with the likes of Sciver-Brunt, Matthews, Amelia Kerr, and Shabnim Ismail leading the charge. Will Mumbai extend their winning streak to four games, or will Delhi complete the double over them? We shall find out together.
That's all from this match! Next up, Bengaluru will take on Delhi on March 1, 2025, at 7:30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Join us earlier for our pre-match build-up. Until then, goodbye!
Jess Jonassen, the Player of the Match, credited the team's quick bowlers for setting the tone in the Powerplay, allowing her to apply pressure in the middle overs. She expressed satisfaction with her own performance, particularly with holding onto a caught-and-bowled opportunity, an area where she had previously struggled. Jonassen praised the entire bowling unit for their collective effort and singled out Minnu Mani as an exceptionally talented bowler. She revealed that she had advised Mani to bowl a fraction fuller, and was impressed with Mani's incredible comeback. Jonassen also commended the batting duo of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma for navigating the Powerplay successfully, and later, the pairing of Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues for finishing off the innings. With her job done, Jonassen was happy to relax and put her feet up for the rest of the evening.
Delhi skipper Meg Lanning shared her thoughts on the team's dominant win, stating that their primary objective was to establish a solid partnership at the top and take the momentum out of the contest. Lanning expressed her desire to replicate this performance in their next outing, aiming to build on the team's current form. She praised Minnu Mani's exceptional bowling, noting that Mani's ability to consistently hit the right areas earned her well-deserved wickets. Lanning also commended Annabel Sutherland's impressive athleticism, highlighting a stunning catch taken by the player, which showcased her remarkable skills on the field.
Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur conceded that nothing went according to plan for her team. She acknowledged that they faltered in all departments of the game, struggling to make the most of the powerplay and ultimately posting a below-par total. Kaur admitted that Mumbai's batting effort was well short of expectations, and they were unable to capitalize on the initial overs. Despite the disappointing loss, Kaur emphasized that her team is still in a good position in the tournament. She plans to advise her teammates to put this game behind them and treat it as a one-off setback.
Stay tuned for the presentation ...
Delhi's Jemimah Rodrigues shared her thoughts on the team's convincing win, stating that this victory was much needed as the team hadn't been living up to their potential. She believes that this win will provide a significant confidence boost to the team. Jemimah highlighted the importance of small efforts in the field, which helped keep the team motivated and ultimately contributed to a positive outcome. She also praised the opening duo of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, noting that their solid understanding of each other's game helps maintain a balance at the top of the order, setting a strong foundation for the team.
Mumbai's batting woes proved costly in this contest. Despite several players, including Yastika Bhatia, Hayley Matthews, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Amelia Kerr, getting starts, none could capitalize and post a substantial score. The team's inability to convert starts into bigger innings ultimately led to a below-par total. Amanjot's timely cameo provided some solace, but it wasn't enough. The Delhi bowlers, meanwhile, were on point, with Jess Jonassen and Minnu Mani picking up three wickets each. Shikha Pandey and Annabel Sutherland chipped in with one wicket apiece, helping restrict Mumbai to a modest total.
Mumbai's bowling unit was unable to conjure up any magic, succumbing to a dominant batting display by Delhi's top order. Amanjot Kaur was the only bowler to claim a wicket, but it was a lone consolation in an otherwise one-sided contest. Delhi's batting unit, led by Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, were unstoppable, making short work of Mumbai's total.
Delhi delivered a crushing blow to Mumbai, securing a convincing 9-wicket victory. Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma made light work of Mumbai's below-par total, initially taking their time to settle in before unleashing a barrage of shots to decimate the Mumbai bowling unit. Their dominant partnership sealed the deal for Delhi, handing Mumbai a resounding defeat. Meg Lanning managed to score a half-century while Shafali Verma yet again missed out on one. Jemimah Rodrigues was calm and composed and the trio was enough for Delhi to cross the finish line.
