Right then, 237 is the target for India to avoid a whitewash. The crowd has turned up in big numbers, hoping to watch Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in action - possibly for the last time for the former in Australia. The visitors will back themselves to chase this down, but it could take just one fiery spell from Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, or even some magic from Adam Zampa to turn things around. India might hold a slight edge, but nothing is guaranteed here. They’ll need to stay sharp and not take the Aussies lightly. Join us in a bit for the second essay.

India will be delighted with how things turned out with the ball after being put in to field. Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana were a touch inconsistent with the new ball, allowing the Aussies to get off to a good start, but Siraj drew first blood in the 10th over. Axar Patel then struck right after the first drinks break, removing Mitchell Marsh. . There was a phase where wickets dried up - Prasidh Krishna even put down a catch, and things seemed to be slipping away. However, Washington Sundar stepped up to break the stand and bowled a tidy 10-over spell on the trot. From there, India regained control. Rana’s second spell was outstanding, as once he dismissed Alex Carey, the tide turned completely. He went on to claim four wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna chipped in with one apiece to restrict Australia to a below-par total.

It was an innings of two halves for Australia. The openers got off to a bright start, both looking assured at the crease as they added 61 before Travis Head was dismissed. Mitchell Marsh couldn’t carry on for long either, falling for 41. The Aussies then had to rebuild, and Matt Renshaw did that smartly, first with Matthew Short, rotating the strike well and finding the occasional boundary, notching up a fine fifty, then with Alex Carey, who took his time to settle in. The pair stitched together a valuable stand of over 50 runs and laid what looked like a solid platform. However, once Carey departed, things unraveled quickly - the middle order failed to make any real contribution as they slumped from 183/3 to 201/7. The lower order tried to chip in, with Cooper Connolly and Nathan Ellis adding some handy runs, but it wasn’t enough to take them anywhere close to a par score on this ground.

A superb bowling effort from India! After being on the back foot in the first couple of games, they’ve bounced back strongly here and given themselves a real chance to finish the series on a high. Australia, on the other hand, will be disappointed - after the start they got, they’d certainly feel there were a lot more runs left out there.

He spears in a cross-seam delivery, and it is the yorker, right at the base of middle and off stumps. Josh Hazlewood could do very little on it. Shreyas Iyer has taken a brilliant catch but, in the process, has hurt himself badly. He is lying on the ground, looking in a lot of pain as the physio comes in to check on him. The umpires take this opportunity and call for DRINKS. India have got a timely wicket, but they need to build on this by putting pressure on the new batter. They need to stop easy singles, which they have not been able to do in the previous few overs. Australia are still in a good position to get something near 300, if not more than that. Matt Renshaw has been superb, already notching up his fifty, and now Cooper Connolly joins him to take the innings forward. Well, not good signs for India as Iyer is walking off the field now. Hopefully, it is nothing serious.

Harshit Rana to Alex Carey, OUT! HIGH UP IN THE AIR AND GONE! Change of pace works for Harshit Rana as he breaks the 59-run partnership. Short of a length, outside off stump with pace on. Carey rises with the bounce on his toes, attempting to hammer it straight down the ground, but only manages a thick top edge that spirals high towards the deep third region. Iyer from backward point sprints backwards at full pace, keeping his eyes on the trajectory, and pulls off a spectacular diving catch while tumbling over. Oh, dear! Shreyas looks in a lot of pain after taking that catch as he lands right on his lower ribs, and needs medical attention. Alex Carey departs on 24 (37) and Australia are 183/4.

A balanced phase of ten overs. India didn't allow Australia to run away with the spinners working hard in tandem to apply the squeeze. Whereas Australia won't be too displeased either, as despite scoring just a single boundary in this phase, they have managed to churn 43 runs between overs 21-30, losing a wicket. Matt Renshaw has brilliantly constructed his innings so far, while Alex Carey, who has just been offered a huge lifeline, has been a bit more cautious and watchful. One of these two will have to bat till the last for a big score. India, on the other hand, will be desperate for quick wickets now.

DRINKS! Australia have built up a solid platform here for a big total. They did lose Travis Head just when he was about to take off, but Mitchell Marsh has been batting really well here. Matthew Short will also have confidence from the previous game and they are looking for another significant stand to take the pressure off the middle order. India have been a bit inconsistent with their line and lengths, but since the wicket, they have been much better. Spin will play a big role here and dictate how things go from here. Australia have bossed the first ten overs after a kind of slow start in the first three overs, which included a maiden. But since then, the Indian pace duo of Krishna and Rana were a bit too predictable and inconsistent with the lines and lengths, which allowed the Australian openers to free their arms. But a switch of ends for Siraj worked wonders as he dismissed the ominous-looking Travis Head in the last over of the Powerplay. Kuldeep Yadav is into the attack, replacing Prasidh Krishna.

UPDATE - Nitish Kumar Reddy picked up a left quadricep injury during the second ODI in Adelaide, which ruled him out of the 3rd and final ODI in Sydney. He is being monitored on a daily basis, according to the BCCI medical team.

The captain of India, Shubman Gill, says that they would have bowled first, so they got what they wanted. Adds that they want to hit the good lengths, restrict the Aussies and then chase it down. Mentions that they had enough runs in the last game but just missed a couple of chances and couldn't get over the line. Informs that they have made a couple of changes - Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna come in for Nitish Kumar Reddy and Arshdeep Singh.

Mentions that the way the young guys like Mitchell Owen and Cooper Connolly stepped up in the previous game was fabulous to see. Adds that Connolly is a calm character and played fabulously. Calls it a great sign for their side, and that it's about winning games in different types of ways to become one of the best teams in the world. Says it is a great opportunity for them to go 3-0 up. PITCH REPORT - Parthiv Patel and Shane Watson provide their analysis from pitchside. Watson notes the pitch is quite hard and firm, with patches of green grass visible on the surface. Also observes a lot of cracks that run down vertically and says that the quicks would like to line a few up. He suggests the fast bowlers could find some movement in the early stages. But also mentions that at SCG, the ball goes through nicely, so he believes that there will be a lot of value for the shots here due to good pace and bounce. He considers it a venue conducive to high scores and highlights that it has historically been a high scoring ground. Parthiv concurs, adding that this appears to be the most batter-friendly surface of the series thus far and concludes by saying that it will be a very good contest.

Ahead of the series, all eyes were on the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to international cricket after the Champions Trophy, but things haven’t quite gone according to script. Rohit did show glimpses of his class with a fluent 73, but Kohli’s twin failures have raised concerns. He’ll be desperate to find some form in this final ODI. On the brighter side, Shreyas Iyer has looked assured in the middle, while Axar Patel’s all-round contributions and KL Rahul’s composure have added some balance. The bowling, however, has lacked consistency - Harshit Rana’s inclusion has come under scrutiny, and both Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh will need to hit their stride quickly.
