Cyclone Dana to make landfall in Odisha

The Indian Meteorological Department said Wednesday (October 23) that Cyclone Dana will likely intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall in West Bengal and Odisha between Thursday night and Friday morning. (PTI)

The cyclone is expected to bring light rainfall in most places, and extremely heavy rainfall (≥ 21 cm) at isolated places over Baleswar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsingpur Kendujhar, Jajpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal, Khorda and Puri districts of Odisha on October 24th and October 25th. IAF lifted NDRF team, 150 personnel and relief material to Bhubaneswar, Odisha. One IL76 and AN 32 were flown in from Bathinda, Punjab. The aircraft landed early morning today. (ANI)

Cyclone Dana, expected to generate wind speeds of 100-110 kmph and gusts at 120 kmph, is a tropical cyclone. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) classifies cyclones broadly into two categories: extratropical cyclones and tropical cyclones. (ANI)

Isolated places over South & North 24 Parganas, East & West Medinipur, Jhargram, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata and Bankura districts of Gangetic West Bengal will also likely witness heavy rainfall during the same period. (ANI)

Cyclone Dana moved at a speed of 18km/hr during the last six hours and lay over east-central Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by early morning of 24th and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts. (ANI)
