The Chief Commercial Manager (CCM) of the Indian Railways on Tuesday announced that the railways will relaunch its web portal to make it easier to book tickets online,plan a journey and even book retiring rooms through the internet. Apart from this the defunct 132 inquiry number is also likely to be restarted. The officer also announced that for trains that do not have pantry car facility,base canteens will be provided to ensure commuters can purchase basic food items in the train itself.
The chief commercial manager visited the Ludhiana Railway station on Tuesday and expressed his satisfaction at the cleanliness and hygiene standards maintained at the station that is one of the largest in the Ferozepur Division. Goyal,however,said there was room for improvement. The officer also said pending tenders on commercial and construction work at the railway station will be cleared soon.
Passengers on the other hand are not pleased with the hygiene standards at the station. Rajesh Singh a commuter when asked about his requirements at the railway station said: No doubt that this railway station is very huge and it does handle a large traffic but then more personnel can be posted here to ensure that the station is clean. The day the platforms are scrubbed clean and the seats sparkling one can be sure that some senior official is coming for inspection. These officials should come unannounced and they discover the real picture.
