Tibetans plead Dalai Lama for a rethink

The Tibetan Parliament-in-exile once again urged Dalai Lama to reconsider his decision to retire from active politics through three resolutions

The Tibetan Parliament-in-exile once again urged Dalai Lama to reconsider his decision to retire from active politics through three resolutions, which were passed at Dharamshala on Friday.

One of the resolutions, which was passed unanimously, stated that “Dalai Lama and the issue of Tibet are like body and a soul, which cannot be separated”,and added there was no one who could handle the Tibet issue the way he did.

The second resolution — which was objected by one of the 43 members — urged him to continue to remain the head of the Tibetans, both spiritually and politically.

Through the third resolution, the Tibetans apologised to the Dalai Lama for “any shortcomings or faults of theirs, inadvertently committed towards the cause of Tibetans”. The Parliamentarians shall rectify all such inadvertent faults and shortcomings and continue struggle for cause of Tibet in a better manner,” it added.

The only resolution which was completely rejected was the one which called for setting up a committee to look into the situation risen by the Dalai Lama’s announcement.

“Let’s see what His Holiness decides. Though the chances of his accepting either of the three are not much, but still we need to try once,” said Karma Yeshi, one of the exiled Tibetan MPs.
