It was no surprise when Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Raj Kumar Hirani approached music director Shantanu Moitra for 3 Idiots. After Parineeta and Munnabhai,Moitra seems to be a fixture with the camp and it looks like he’s done it again with the songs from 3 Idiots like All izz well,Zubi Zubi and Behti Hawa going great guns on music charts across India. “We know each other’s style of working and we love making music together. I never went to a film school. These guys are more like film schools for me,” says Moitra,41. Describing the music of the film as wild and unconventional,Moitra says,“The brainstorming sessions happened but the best part about Vidhu and Raju is that the music falls into place while they are writing the script. They first write the film and then the song department kicks off immediately. The songs are sort of woven into the script at different stages.”

“We called Aamir once we were done with the song Behti Hawa and Raju told him that this is your funeral song. It will be played across the television when you are dead. Aamir laughed,” says Moitra, who doesn’t make music on a regular basis. Currently,he’s busy making a documentary on the folk music of India.
