Stolen car recovered,two held

Two persons were arrested on Thursday on charges of stealing a Maruti Zen car and driving the same on a fake registration number.

Two persons were arrested on Thursday on charges of stealing a Maruti Zen car and driving the same on a fake registration number. The police also recovered a fake registration certificate (RC) and a laptop,which they allegedly used for preparing fake RCs of the vehicles stolen by them.

Chandigarh Police Crime Branch nabbed Praveen and Pramod Rishi and recovered a Zen car (PB-10-BG-4157),with a fake registration number (HR-05-S-6878). A case was registered against the accused on charges of theft,cheating,fraud and forgery. While Praveen is already facing trial in numerous cases of vehicle-thefts,Rishi is a bouncer working with a nightclub at Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park.

Rishi is also facing a trial in an attempt to murder case. Both the accused,according to the police,met in Patiala jail in April this year,where they were lodged for different offences. Both were released from jail in April,after which they stole the Maruti Zen car from Chandigarh Club on April 21.

“Both the accused started stealing cars from various parking lots in the city. We have taken them in custody and are interrogating them. There are chances that the accused have stolen more vehicles from the city.

The preliminary investigation has also indicated that the two were stealing cars,affixing fake registration number and then preparing forged RCs. The possibility of recovery of more vehicles from their possession can not be ruled out,” said Inspector Charanjit Singh,Incharge,Crime Branch.
