For Simi Selects Indias Most Desirable ,the actress-turned-television hostess has not only orchestrated a parade of Indias most famous singles but also made them talk about what makes them swoon,what turns them on,and giving in to temptation. As Garewal sets the stage for these revelations every Sunday,starting June 12,she talks to Alaka Sahani about preferring fun to gossip.

Simi Selects is filling up the Koffee with Karan slot. How different is your show going to be from its gossipy predecessor?

There is much more to people than gossip. Simple gossip doesnt appeal to me. I dont want my guests to gossip about their co-star or rake up a controversy. Instead,I want to know the person sitting in front of me. I am not opposed to revelations made by my guests about themselves. But it has to come without resorting to sensationalism.

How is the new show going to be different from Rendezvous with Simi Garewal?

After Rendezvous with Simi Garewal,I wanted to come out with something very different. This took a long time. Since 2009,I have spent lots of time in writing and designing the show.

There are two sides to my personality one that the viewers saw in Rendezvous and another thats playful. Its the latter that you will see in Simi. I wanted to make the new show for the young audience. The show is very entertaining and is something everybody will enjoy.

What have been your criteria to select Indias Most Desirable?

The show will feature the celebrities who are single and eligible,apart from being very desirable. They have got the whole package of talent,lifestyle,fame and mass appeal. The season will have 15 episodes and as many guests.

Why have so few chat show hosts in India got their shows right?

Thats because nobody is original. Most of them are copying foreign as well as Indian shows. As a result,each show becomes like every other show.

Why did you choose Ranbir Kapoor for the opening episode?

I have had a relationship with the Kapoor family since the days of Mera Naam Joker. I have worked with Raj Kapoor and his son Rishi. Over the years,the Kapoor family has adopted me. They never say no to me. I wanted Chintu for the first episode of Rendezvous,which became a big success and went on to have 140 episodes. So its natural that Ranbir appears on the first episode of Simi Selects.

You are known as the Lady in White. Yet,the first episode has you wearing black?

I am wearing a black dress with silver work,designed by Anamika Khanna,for the opening episode. When I first saw this dress,I fell in love with it. In the rest of the series,however,I will stick to white. Anamika has given me a new look for the show. I will mostly be wearing her designs. You will also see me in Shahab Durazi creations.

Why did you stop acting in films?

Television has been keeping me busy. However,I am likely to act in a film soon. The shooting was earlier scheduled for May and June. But I couldnt do that due to Simi Selects shoots. Now it has been deferred due to monsoons.
