The Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) has taken the cognizance of a complaint regarding throwing away ashes of unidentified bodies by Cremation Ground Trust,Sherpur Chowk,at a railway line. The complainant Arvind Sharma,a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, said,“I complained to the PSHRC on May 25 that the ashes of unidentified bodies, which are burnt by Cremation Ground Trust are thrown at the railway line behind the cremation ground and thus human rights are being violated.”

Following this complaint, the commission prime facie took cognizance of the matter and called for the report from the State Government,Punjab, through department of Home Affairs and Justice and from the Police Commissioner,Ludhiana, positively by August 26 this year.”

Arvind Sharma said,“The ashes of unidentified bodies are increasing day by day. Rohit Sabharwal President of Anti Corruption and Crime Investigation Cell has also witnessed this. He is going to register a case against crematorium authorities as this act is a punishable offence under Sections 268 (creating nuisance in public),295-A(for hurting the religious sentiments of the people) under IPC. And every unidentified body being cremated here belongs to the person who follows one particular religion. So it become the responsibility of the crematorium authority to perform their religious rites.”
