Praised by RR,forensic lab asks for more hands

Home Minister R R Patil today praised the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories,Kalina,for giving the police a breakthrough that led to an arrest for one of the Nehru Nagar rapes and murders.

Home Minister R R Patil today praised the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories,Kalina,for giving the police a breakthrough that led to an arrest for one of the Nehru Nagar rapes and murders.

During a technical visit,Patil inaugurated the integrated ballistic investigation system (IBIS),released the annual report,toured all labs,interacted with the staff and heard their requests — lifting of a one-year hiring freeze and fresh recruitment,10 designated MHADA quarters,an additional regional lab each in Kolhapur and Nanded,and cyber laboratories and DNA profiling labs in the regional laboratory at Nashik,in addition to the existing ones in Nagpur and Mumbai.

“We had sent the Home Minister an invite earlier. He congratulated us on our success in the Nehru Nagar rape and murder case and then asked to see the labs. He inaugurated the IBIS,designed to identify and connect arms used by international terrorist organisations. He reviewed the departments of instrumentation,biology,serology,DNA,toxicology and physics,” said FSL director Dr M V Garad.
