PIL in HC seeks CBI probe into Lakhimpur incident

The petitioner has also sought a direction for paying a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the victim's family.

A PIL was today filed in the Allahabad High Court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in a police station in Lakhimpur district.

The PIL was filed in the registry of the Lucknow Bench of the court by a local lawyer and secretary of a voluntary organisation. It is likely to come up for hearing on June 15.

The petitioner,while seeking a CBI probe into the incident,has also sought a direction for paying a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the victim’s family.

The compensation amount should be deducted from the accused policemen,the petitioner pleaded.

He has also sought a direction for dismissal of the accused police personnel.

The girl was found hanging from a tree inside the premises of Nighasan Police Station in Lakhimpur district on Friday. The victim’s mother in her complaint had alleged that the girl was raped and murdered after which 11 policemen were placed under suspension.

While local police ruled out murder citing post mortem report,the state government has ordered a CB-CID probe into the incident,besides lodging an FIR against three policemen.
