Congress MLA from Shivajinagar Vinayak Nimhan has decided to file a PIL against builders and developers who have encroached upon water bodies and made constructions on it that might lead to widespread flooding in the city during monsoon.
Nimhan has appealed to citizens and voluntary organisations to send information about the builders who have built or are building structures on water bodies notwithstanding rules, which is causing havoc during rainy season.
In a press note,Nimhan has written,The number of buildings and structures are increasing in the city. A number of these structures are being raised on various natural water bodies like nullahs and rivulets. Besides, the construction waste is also dumped in these water bodies. This creates serious problems like blocking the natural path of water bodies, especially during rainy season. All this leads to flooding and poses danger to life as well as assets of people. The local governing bodies as well as the builder lobby have not learnt any lesson from the encroachments on Mithi river in Mumbai as well as Indrayani river. Therefore,we have decided to file a PIL against the builders.
