Talking to reporters here,Navy Detachment Commander D V Tiwari said fishermen should help Navy and Coast Guard to protect Indian territoy. They were being provided with adequate security if they conducted fishing in the territorial waters of the country.
They should also carry Identity cards and life-saving equipments including jackets with them,he said.
It was not the responsibility of Naval and Coastguard personnel alone to provide security for the fishermen. They should also take efforts to safeguard themselves, he said.
If they crossed the border and entered the territory of another country, how can they expect protection from Indian Navy or Coastguard. They are going to Sri Lankan waters at their own risk. They should not do that, he said.
They should also inform the Navy if they noticed the presence of any foreign boats in our territory,he said.
