N Srinivasan back at helm,Jagmohan Dalmiya may head IPL

N Srinivasan has returned to take charge of the BCCI affairs again.

N Srinivasan has returned to take charge of the BCCI affairs again. Officially,Jagmohan Dalmiya, the Cricket Association of Bengal president,is still the interim head,a position that was awarded to him after Srinivasan stepped down on June 2 following the arrest of his son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan for alleged involvement in cricket betting. But Srinivasan chaired the BCCI disciplinary committee meeting in New Delhi on Friday and will chair the Special General Meeting (SGM) and Annual General Meeting (AGM),both in Chennai on September 25 and 29 respectively.

A BCCI official said it was Srinivasan’s call whether he wanted to return to the helm or not because him chairing meetings was more of a ‘moral issue’ than a ‘legal issue’. “See,there is no bar on Srinivasan from working as the BCCI president. He was not removed but stepped aside on his own. So if he returns to assume office, then technically, there is no problem. Also,Dalmiya doesn’t have the signing authority. So,Srinivasan had to attend the disciplinary committee meeting yesterday,” the official said.

Dalmiya might be rewarded with the post of IPL commissioner for extending his support to Srinivasan when the latter faced criticism from all quarters. A new IPL commissioner will be appointed at the AGM as Rajiv Shukla had resigned in the wake of the spot-fixing and betting scandal of IPL 6. Dalmiya proposed a 12-point anti-corruption measure to clean up cricket during the June 10 working committee meeting.
