MNS legislator Ram Kadam has admitted to slapping a public servant while on a visit to a rationing office in Ghatkopar on Tuesday. The Pant Nagar Police have registered a complaint against Kadam but he has not been arrested.
I had received several complaints from people about harassment by officials at the rationing office. Despite my warning them, the ordeal continued. When an old woman went to get her work done an officer asked for money in my presence and I gave him prasad (hit him), Kadam said.
On Tuesday, the MNS leader went to the rationing office with his supporters to discuss issues pertaining to ration cards. During the meeting,Kadam asked some questions to rationing officer Prakash Pagote, however,Pagote was speaking to someone else at the time and did not reply. This enraged Kadam who slapped Pagote in the face. His bodyguards also assaulted Pagote, said DCP (Zone 7) Sanjay Shintre. Pagote later filed a complaint of assault on a public servant against Kadam.
We have not made any arrests and are in the process of taking statements, said Shintre. The DCP said he could not comment on the possibility of an arrest.
