MLA escapes as gunmen open fire

Unidentified miscreants today opened fire on Samajwadi Party legislator from Gyanpur Vijay Mishra,a strongman,while he was addressing a public meeting at Varuna bazaar in Bhadohi Lok Sabha constituency from where the SP has fielded Chote Lal Bind.

While the legislator escaped unhurt,his official guard Sanjay Kumar Maurya,his driver Shashi Bahadur Yadav and an unidentified woman sustained bullet injuries. The firing incident led to a stampede in the meeting. The gunner and the driver were admitted in a private hospital in the city.

According to sources,the meeting was almost over and Mishra was about to leave the place when some miscreants opened fire at him. The MLA could not be contacted despite several attempts.

A month ago,his wife Ramlali had alleged that the state government had been harassing her husband.

She had also alleged that the Allahabad and Bhadohi police,at the behest of a Cabinet minister in the BSP government Rakesh Dhar Tripathi,have lodged an FIR against her husband and family members. .

Deputy inspector general of police BP Tripathi said a manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants and they would be arrested soon. “We are looking into the matter and soon the culprits would be behind the bars,” Tripathi said.
