From now onwards, the Municipal Corporation can get the electricity poles shifted from roads on their own by hiring private services. The MC can still seek technical advice from the electricity board department but will not have to wait for power authorities to act, which will spare the corporations road-widening projects from delays.
This was decided in a specially held meeting between the officials of the PSEB and the Municipal Corporation on Monday afternoon.
It needs to be mentioned that at the moment,MC has to deposit the required money for pole shifting with the electricity board after which they carry out the work on a particular road. PSEB chief engineer BS Bath said,Even we hire the workers from outside to get the work done and hence the same can also be done by MC by hiring the workers. We can provide technical assistance and thus will be charging only for that.
It needs to be mentioned that in the past,MC officials have complained on a number of occasions that they can not carry out road-widening projects in many areas due to delay in pole shifting by PSEB.
Apart from this, even the issue of smooth supply of water to many areas was also discussed. The MC officials wanted that the electricity board should give them the schedule of power cuts in advance and also the schedule of repair works in any areas should be intimated to MC officials,so that they can regulate the tubewell supply according to the power shutdown schedule.Till now, lack of water supply or less water supply in many areas is being attributed to the power cuts as well.
Bath said,Four-hour power cut still remain in our schedule, but due to less demand, power supply remained normal for the past two days. Henceforth,we have given the schedule of power cuts to the MC officials and they can convey the same to their tubewell operators in different areas and even the intimation of repair works will also be given to a nodal officer of MC from now onwards.
Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura, senior deputy mayor Parveen Bansal, joint commissioner KP Brar and a few other officials of the Municipal Corporation were present in the meeting.
