An actor who doesnt want to be typecast,a director whos chasing his dreams and an ex-cricketer who warms up to new innings Tulip Joshi,Puneet Isarr & Gulzar Chahal join the dots of their career
Models strut and go,but its the showstopper who seals and steals the show. And now that shes way over her modelling days,Tulip Joshi,in her black high gum boots, has very nicely strutted to the showstopping aisle and joined the starry line-up. Its a thin line, muses the lady, and she has crossed it,just like shes crossed over to cinema, the first stop being Yashrajs Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai. But that was ages back,we cut to the present, where Tulips sticking to her own formula of pick n choose. There have been errors of judgment, but then,Im not the kind who lives in the past. Id rather learn from my mistakes and move on, she brushes aside every comment and controversy. Instead, she sifts through an assortment of film in her kitty and comes out with the latest, which also brings her to town. Its called Nishchey Kar Apni Jeet Karoon, and its a Nahar and Puneet Moviez Pvt Ltd Production, Tulip takes a break after the mahurat shot. The films a Bollywood-Hollywood venture and according to Tulip, she plays a Muslim girl called Sarah, who is the relief factor in the film. Its a very intense script, but I am part of the happy moments and lovely songs. Another project that Tulips lapped up is Baljeet Deols Jag Jeondiyan De Mele starring Harbhajan Mann. Baljeet is a photographer and its always a pleasure working with one because they have immense knowledge of right angles and frames. Was it easy carrying off Punjabi dialogues? Language has never been a bar for me at least. Ive worked down south,so yes,its interesting.
As she counts her films – from heavy weights like Dhokha and Matrubhoomi to in pipeline comedy Daddy Cool with Aftab Shivdasani and Runway in which she plays a happy bar dancer,we join the dots on her cinematic graph. Its quite skewed, she smiles, thats because I dont want to be stuck in the typecast net. So,it was a conscious decision to pendulate back forth, from hardcore to light hearted. If I have to refresh my acting skills,Ill watch Matrubhoomi, but if I have to strike a balance,I have to juggle. While she agrees its a male dominated industry and its rare that 40-year-old actress would get to romance a 19-year-old hero, but then,As a star you have your limitations, but as an actor, you only grow.
Talking of growth, actor turned director Puneet Isarrs graph has gone from Mahabharata to magnum opus. After directing TV series like Hindustani,Jai Mata Ki and Salman Khan-Shilpa Shetty starrer Garv, the directors taken a huge plunge and invested in his next project,a Rs 50 crore budget film titled Nishchey Kar Apni Jeet Karoon. Produced by Peshaura Singh Thind and Isarr under their newly-launched banner,NP Moviez, the film is a result of four years of Isarrs work and research, and is inspired by true incidents. Its about mistaken identity. You see, post 9/11,New Yorks become a whole new place, there are a lot of hate crimes against Sikhs and Muslims, and as a result,a lot of emotional trauma. The Sikh community is a 500-year old one,and through this film,I want to tell the world that Sikhs and Muslims are as different as chalk and cheese, says Isarr, chasing his dream and eyeing a Diwali release.
