LMC set to tax units using water professionally

For the first time,Lucknow Municipal Corporation will formulate a policy to tax units using water professionally like motor garages and dry cleaners.

For the first time,Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will formulate a policy to tax units using water professionally like motor garages and dry cleaners.

Directions to constitute the committee were issued during the LMC special House session held to pass the budget of Lucknow Jal Sansthan (LJS) on Thursday. “There are several such units that have installed submersible or jet pumps and water is being wasted. The committee will formulate a policy after studying the Sewerage Act and LMC Act,” said Lucknow Mayor Dinesh Sharma. The committee will have to come up with the policy within a month.

Meanwhile,as per the budget of the Jal Nigam for 2010-11,while the total income of the department will be Rs 13322.20 lakh,its expenditure will be Rs 14605.32. “The deficit is due to the Rs 324-crore loan taken by the LJS in 1984,electricity dues worth Rs 450 lakh and Rs 150 lakh for the payment of salaries under Sixth Pay Commission,” said Sharma.
