IPL owners name Mallya as spokesperson

The IPL franchises have nominated Royal Challengers owner Vijay Mallya as their spokesperson.

The IPLs governing council will meet for the first time in the post-Modi era at the BCCI office here on Thursday, with the franchises nominating Royal Challengers Bangalore owner Vijay Mallya as their spokesperson. However, the presence of mallya himself at the meeting is uncertain, given his involvement with Formula One team Force India and the upcoming European Grand Prix.

This will be the franchises first meeting with senior BCCI office-bearers. The suggestion came from Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra in an email sent to all the franchises. Following earlier suggestions that Vijay Mallya be the spokesperson for the franchises,it is suggested that we all get together at the BCCI office. Can you please confirm attendance? It will be useful to meet so we can all quickly establish an approach consistent with our group discussions in Bangkok, Kundra wrote.

Interestingly, the two new franchises Pune and Kochi arent aware of the decision. We dont know what happened in the Bangkok meeting and when Mallya was made our spokesperson, Abhijeet Sarkar of Sahara owners of the Pune franchise told The Indian Express.

It will be the first time all ten franchises meet up with IPL interim chairman Chirayu Amin. However, the most important query remains the the number of players franchises can retain in Season IV. It is learnt that the though BCCI will look into the problems,no specific results will be announced. It will be our first meeting with them,we will take up general issues but there wont be any results. We all know the issue of retaining players is big but one cant solve it overnight, a top BCCI official said.
