India should not support Rajapaksa, says BJP

Tamil Nadu BJP unit today said India should not repeat the “mistake” of supporting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, whose government is facing charges “war crimes’.

Reacting to Rajapaksa’s reported statement that India should come forward and help his country in view of the UN and other countries resolutions on human rights violations, state party president Pon Radhakrishnan alleged that the Centre and Tamil Nadu Governments had made a “mistake by helping Sri Lanka in killing thousands of innocent Tamils,in the pretext of eliminating LTTE”.

If the Centre extended support to Rajapaksa,BJP would stage demonstrations across the state,he said.

He also came down heavily on Congress and its ministers, including P Chidambaram, saying the party which had opposed to form JPC on the 2G spectrum issue was trying to “scuttle” the PAC probe.
