HC turns down plea for CBI probe in Silda

A Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court on Friday refused to pass an order on a CBI probe in the Maoist attack on Silda massacre that left 24 personnel of Eastern Frontier Rifle dead.

A Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court on Friday refused to pass an order on a CBI probe in the Maoist attack on Silda massacre that left 24 personnel of Eastern Frontier Rifle dead.

Disposing of a PIL filed by advocate Tapash Bhanja that sought a CBI probe into the February 15 massacre, the Bench comprising Chief Justice Mohit S Shah and Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta said there was no need of it as the state agencies are already investigating the matter and the Centre is informed about the findings from time to time.

Advocate General Bolai Roy,who was representing the state government in the case told the court that the CID had conducted the probe and has already filed a chargesheet against 24 persons, including top Maoist leader Kishenji,at a court in Jhargram on May 22. Roy said the police have arrested seven persons in connection with the case and the state government has already paid compensation to the victims’ families. “So the CBI investigation is not required into the incident and the police can continue its probe into the incident,” Roy told the court.
