The students of BSc,Biotechnology,Amity University,demanded on Monday that the university be closed after one of their batchmates tested positive for swine flu.
The university administration,however,refused to cancel classes.
Sources in the university said many of the students fled from the hostels after the university decided to remain open despite the students’ demand.
The university administration,however,denied this.
All classes are going on as usual and no hostel has been vacated, said Naresh Chandra,Director of Amity University,Lucknow.
Only one student from BSc Biotech,from Varanasi,had tested positive on Saturday and was sent home immediately, said Ashutosh Chaubey,the Public Relations Officer of the university. As a precautionary measure,the BSc Biotech classes were suspended today. But the rest of the classes were held as usual. We had sent eight students for test earlier,but except one,all tested negative, he added.
Senior Medical officers at Chief Minister’s Office also confirmed that only one person tested positive from the University as per their records.
