The Defence Services Cooperative House Building Society has decided to wait till the next court hearing before taking any action on the Tata Camelot project in Kansal,in which 1,700 flats are to be built. The Punjabi Coooperative House Building Society or Punjab MLAs Society has already given a notice to Tata Housing Development Company Ltd cancelling the agreement.

Sources said at a recent managing committee meet of the Defense Services Cooperative House Building Society it was decided that the society will adopt a wait and watch policy in the Camelot project for which the society had given its land along with the Punjab MLA Society.

“We will wait till the next hearing. The case is slated to be held in July in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in this matter as a PIL was filed and the court had given a stay on construction of the project,” said an officer bearer of the association.

He said the association has taken a legal opinion in the matter and it was told that it cannot cancel the agreement with Tata Housing for non-payment of the third installment which was due in December. The agreement can only be terminated if Tata Housing is unable to take all the permission required to start the project, including the environment clearance. Till date it has not got the environment clearance.

Already the company has paid around Rs 33 lakh to each member in two installments and the third installment was of Rs 24.75 lakh and fourth installment was of the same amount. The deal with 130 members of the MLA Society and 207 members of the Defence Society was that they will get Rs 82.50 lakh and fully furnished four-bedroom apartments worth Rs 1.40 crore as the company has got 52 acres prime land from both the legislatures and defence officers societies in Kansal for a group housing and commercial project.
