The Pune police had nabbed six persons involved in illegal firearms trade on Wednesday evening. Acting on a tip off,a team of crime branch (Unit III) laid a trap at Indrayani Nagar in Moshi area and nabbed three persons with possession of firearms around 5.15 pm.
The accused have been identified as Ravi Raghunath Potghan (24) of Chinchwad,Vijay Vikarm Rathod (23) of Charholi and Sunil Raghunath Vishwakarma (25) of Bhosari.
When the crime branch team tried to nab the trio,the accused Ravi Potghan,in a bid to escape,bit Naik S G Jinedis right hand. Jinedi and his team,however,managed to nab the accused and recovered a country-made pistol and five cartridges from them. Jinedi sustained a wound on his hand and was treated at a local hospital. Jinedi then lodged a complaint against the three accused at the Bhosari police station. The accused have been booked under Arms Act and section 353 of Indian Penal Code for causing disturbance in government work.
In another action,a team of Cantonment police station on Wednesday evening arrested three youngsters for possessing three country made pistols and one cartridge. The accused have been identified as Rambhau Rangnath Thorat (25),Gorakshnath alias Rahul Suresh Gaware (19) and Kunal alias Sunil Darekar (22),all residents of Shirur.
Acting on a tip-off to hawaldar Neminath Katke,a police team led by senior inspector Deepak Humbre,sub inspector Shailesh Sankhye and others laid a trap at M G Road. At around 9 pm,the accused came to the spot in a car. Police team nabbed the accused and recovered fire arms from their possession. Their car has been seized. The police are probing the cause for which the accused had come to M G Road from Shirur with firearms.
It is suspected that the accused were planning to sell the pistols. The accused,who were produced before the Shivajinagar court on Thursday,have been remanded to police custody till February 7.
