The Commonwealth Games organising committee (OC) has decided upon the colour palette for the uniforms that will be used during the Queens Baton Relay in the Capital. The Relay will conclude its journey spanning 340 days at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on the opening night of the mega event on October 3.
We will be using green and purple for the Queens Baton Relay here in Delhi. Purple has been chosen because it is an Indian colour. Green will be used to signify the Green Games concept. Each category of people involved in the Queens Baton Relay will have their own set of uniforms, Sangeeta Welignker,additional director-general for Image and Look the department in charge of designing the uniforms said. The department is also working on the design for the official Games uniforms.
The OC had recently floated a tender for the uniforms the commercial bid was opened on Monday. Sixteen firms have applied for the tender. We will be shortlisting the firm very soon. The commercial bid has been opened,but we are making sure that we get a proper deal,where there is a balance between price and quality, Manjushree S Roy,deputy director-general of OC said. The firms have been directed,among other specification,to provide crew uniforms that can withstand extreme conditions for at least 100 continuous days and 80 washes.
Also,only firms that have an annual turnover of more than Rs 2.5 crore are being called for the bid. Uniforms with different colour codes will be given to different categories of people involved in the Games. The baton-bearers will be wearing a purple-and-green T-shirts and track pants. Officials will have black-and-white uniforms,while the volunteers will have more pleasing white and green uniforms. Security runners will sport green shorts and T-shirts with all three colours white,green and purple.
The uniforms will be supplied to the OC by April. The firm will be fined up to 30 per cent of the total budget in case of a delay in supply.
