CBI raids passport office after reports of irregularities

The Anti-Corruption wing of Lucknow CBI conducted a raid at the Regional Passport Office on Wednesday.

The Anti-Corruption wing of Lucknow CBI conducted a raid at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) on Wednesday. The raid followed information about irregularities while receiving passport forms and depositing the cash from the applicants.

A senior CBI official said they had a tip-off about the employees being in connivance with the touts.

The CBI team raided the RPO at Gomti Nagar soon after lunch and began with the counters on the ground floor. The team began scanning the details of passport forms submitted since morning and the cash deposited against each application.

The officials have found surplus cash from three of the counters and the employees concerned failed to justify keeping the money.

The search was on till the last reports came in and the operation will continue on Thursday,the official said.
