After an accused in the 1984 riots case pleaded before the Special CBI court at the Karkardooma courts on Saturday to transfer the cases to either Rohini or Tis Hazari courts, the court referred the case to the district judge. Special CBI judge PS Teji has forwarded the files relating to the two cases, filed by the agency earlier this year,to the District Judge at Tis Hazari, who will now allocate the court on April 1. Co-accused Khushal Singh, who was present at the court with Sajjan Kumar, said in his plea that since the alleged offences took place in Sultanpuri and Delhi Cantonment area, the Karkardooma courts in East Delhi was not a competent court to try the accused because of lack of jurisdiction. The plea said since Delhi is divided into nine judicial districts, trial of the cases at Karkardooma defeats the spirit of the law. Judge Teji, however, said every sessions trial in Delhi can be tried by every additional sessions judge. A CBI counsel said the accused were trying to delay the trial so that they could intimidate the witnesses.
