Shahid Kapoor says 2009 has been the most significant year of his career
I can’t begin to tell you how much I learnt from Kaminey. First of all,it was the acting. Ive never been so afraid to portray a character. I was so afraid that the speech defects will not be convincing enough and my character would turn out to be a caricature. I also didnt expect the film to do so well commercially. I knew that it is a great movie but I expected it to have a niche audience.
It was also the year when I could finally say that Ive been part of Yash Raj Films with Dil Bole Hadippa. Just being involved with the prestigious banner in any sort of way is a big deal for any actor. And what made the year ever better is that Im now working on my second film with them. The untitled film is being directed by Parmeet Sethi and weve just finished shooting for it.
My father (Pankaj Kapur) and I also finally decided to go ahead with a project together. Dad has wanted to do this for a while and its finally happening. My dad doesnt need to prove anything to the industry; hes already such a respected actor. I know that he wants to make this film so that it will give me the chance to play a character that no one has ever seen before. Hes making this film just for me and Im so honoured.
My body also had quite a hectic year. Ive worked out so much and been so careful about my diet. My entire body structure has changed, especially with getting the eight-pack for Chance Pe Dance.
But Im most excited about 2010. The year will begin with the release of Chance Pe Dance and its something Im really looking forward to. I sometimes feel that the film was written for me. I was once a dancer and struggled to get in to the film industry. I went for hundreds of auditions, drove a second-hand Maruti 800 and was always short of money. This is exactly the story of my character in the film.
Shooting the film was also so much fun because I love to dance. We also got on board American choreographer Marty Kudelka. His work is so different from what we do in Bollywood and I learnt so much. I love the hip hop weve used.
Next year will also see the release of Paathshala, where I play a school teacher. I shot for seven days but Im in the film for around 40 minutes. It was a pleasant surprise.
Most of 2010 will be spent working on my dads film. Im actually slightly afraid of working under my dad. If it is any other director,I can always take some liberties. But here,if my dad wants me to do a scene 200 times,I will have to do it till hes happy. If he wants me to work 24 hours a day,I will have no say because Im in such awe of him.
