After bringing the city to a virtual standstill by going on strike, the Chandigarh School Bus Operators Association has now moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the recent amendments made in the terms and conditions of plying buses by the UT Administration.
The association has objected to three conditions put forth by the government. Firstly, the life span of a bus run by the association has been limited to 15 years. The Administration has made it clear that after 15 years,no bus owned by the association will be allowed to ply. The association has contended that if maintained well,a bus can be used much after 15 years.
Secondly, the association has objected to the hike in bus permit fee by the Administration. While earlier,an amount of Rs 677 was being charged per annum, the fee has been increased to Rs 25,000 from this year.
Thirdly, the association has alleged that the speed governors to be installed by the Administration in the buses are of inferior quality. The association has demanded that the Administration be directed to install better quality speed governors.
No notice has been issued on the petition as the petitioner has sought time to place certain documents on record.
