BJP may take a call on Delhi CM candidate in Modi’s presence on Sunday
According to party insiders,Harsh Vardhan is the frontrunner in the race.
In an attempt to end the confusion within the partys Delhi unit, the BJP central leadership is likely to take a final call on its chief ministerial candidate on Sunday. Sources,in this context, underlined that the opinion was largely in favour of Harsh Vardhan over Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel.
Momentum is building towards a final call to end the cracks in the unit. If there is unanimity for projecting a CM candidate,it will most likely be Harsh Vardhan, a party source briefed about the internal deliberations over the issue said. The BJP is likely to call a meeting on Sunday to take a final call.
BJPs prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is slated to be in the national capital on Sunday in connection with Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting to finalise the candidates for the Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh.
Though as of Friday evening there was no meeting of the BJP parliamentary board slated for Sunday, sources indicated that the meeting may be called on Sunday as most of the members will be in the capital for the meeting of the CEC.
Sources,in this context, stressed that there were only a few supporters of Goel in the parliamentary board. The best Goel who is himself aspiring for the CM candidature could do is to stall a projection altogether and keep his post-poll option open by going to polls under a collective leadership, sources said.
Goel has impressed upon BJP president Rajnath Singh, general secretary Ramlal and election in-charge for the state Nitin Gadkari that he has control over the partys Delhi unit.
However,Goels one-upmanship is learnt to have not gone down well with the party brass. The central leadership will have to weigh Goels role as a spoiler in the eventuality of bypassing his claim before taking a call. With momentum building in favour of Harsh Vardhan, time appears to be running out for Goel to win more supporters in the parliamentary board to delay the decision.
