Beniwal rallies into second round

Taking advantage of his fine serve,Haryana's Suraj Beniwal stormed into the second round with a 6-1,6-2 win over Manav Dhiman in the men's singles category in the Harvest Tennis Academy-AITA Tennis Tournament being played at the academy on Monday.

Beniwal claimed the first set with a 6-1 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-2 margin.

In another match in the same category,top seed Gurinder Singh of Punjab ended the challenge of Pradeep Reddy with a narrow 6-2,4-6,7-6 (7-4) win. Singh claimed the first set with a 6-2 margin before losing the second set with a 4-6 margin. The third set went into tie-break and Singh claimed the third and final set with a 7-6 (7-4) margin to book a berth in the second round of the tournament. Chandigarh’s Bhavika Wadhwan stormed into the second round with a 6-2,6-2 win over Deepshikha Gupta of Rajasthan in the women’s singles category. Bhavika was superb on the baseline and claimed the first set with a 6-2 margin before claiming the second set with an identical margin to rally into the second round.

It was easy going for Tamil Nadu’s Lubna Mariam as she ended the challenge of Komalpreet Kaur of Punjab with an easy 6-0,6-0 win. Mariam claimed the first set with a 6-0 margin before claiming the second set with an identical margin. In another match in the same category,Surya Tejaswani of Andhra Pradesh ended the challenge of Shilpa Naruka of Chandigarh with a 6-3,6-2 win.
