Sultanpur, situated on the banks of the Gomti River in Uttar Pradesh, serves as the administrative headquarters of Sultanpur district, part of the Ayodhya division. This historic constituency has witnessed a dynamic political landscape over the years.

Since independence, the Congress party has claimed victory here on eight occasions, each time with a different candidate. Similarly, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has secured victory twice, also with different candidates. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has triumphed four times, with three different candidates.

Sultanpur encompasses five assembly seats: Isauli, Sultanpur, Sadar, Kadipur (Reserved), and Lambhua. As we approach the 2024 General Elections, the political landscape remains charged, with candidates vying for the people’s mandate. The voting date for the 2024 Sultanpur Lok Sabha Constituency Election is scheduled for May 25th (Phase 6).

Maneka lost the 1991 election from here but after that, she and Varun have won seven consecutive elections from Pilibhit.

Ram Bhual Nishad, Samajwadi Party:

The Akhilesh Yadav-led party also changed its candidate from Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat, giving ticket to Ram Bhual Nishad replacing Bheem Nishad, the party said in a statement.

Uday Raj Verma has been fielded by BSP for Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat. There was an alliance of SP-BSP in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. BSP had lost on this seat in this election. BSP had fielded former MLA Chandrabhadra Singh Sonu. Sonu had to face defeat in a tough contest against BJP candidate former minister Maneka Gandhi. This time neither Sonu is in BSP nor could an alliance be formed with SP. BSP is fighting this Lok Sabha election alone on its own.
