Raebareli Lok Sabha Constituency: Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh is one of the most historic seats in the history of parliamentary elections as it has been the stronghold of several important names of Indian politics, such as Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Feroz Gandhi, etc. Established in 1952, Raebareli Lok Sabha constituency is comprised of five Vidhan Sabha seats, including Bachhrawan, Harchandpur, Rae Bareli, Sareni and Unchahar.

Raebareli Lok Sabha has served as a castle for the Congress as they have won 17 of the 20 Lok Sabha elections contested on this seat (including three by-polls). One of the most influential prime ministers in the country, Smt. Indira Gandhi also held this seat as her stronghold for almost a decade. However, the most successful leader from this seat is the former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, who won the last five Lok Sabha elections one after another from this seat (Including 2006 by-polls).

However, when Raebareli opens its EVMs and ballot boxes for the 18th Lok Sabha elections in phase five, it will be on Monday, May 20, 2024, it will host new faces as its Lok Sabha candidates, as after being elected to the Rajya Sabha, the sitting MP Sonia Gandhi has decided not to contest the Lok Sabha elections this time around. Instead of Sonia, Congress has fielded Rahul Gandhi as their candidate from Raebareli Lok Sabha in the hope of getting assistance from the Gandhi family’s domination of this seat. Dinesh Pratap Singh and Thakur Prasad Yadav are the BJP and BSP candidates, respectively.

After the former Congress chief and the five-time sitting MP from Raebareli Lok Sabha constituency, Sonia Gandhi, announced that she will not be contesting the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the suspense over who will secure the candidature from this seat started to swirl around. However, ending the speculations, Congress finally announced that Sonia Gandhi’s son and the allegedly Congress’s PM face for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi, will be their Lok Sabha candidate from Raebareli. Notably, Rahul is a sitting MP from Kerela’s Wayanad seat and is also contesting in 2024 from the same, making his candidature from Raebareli his second in the same elections.
