Claiming that “all is well” in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were “chips of the same block” and accused the three Opposition parties of doing “politics of appeasement” and giving shelter to mafia and criminal elements whey they were in power.

Campaigning for the BJP in Pilibhit and Moradabad Lok Sabha constituencies, Adityanath invoked the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution to target the Opposition parties.

“Kya ye rajnitik dal Ayodhya mein Ram Mandir banwa sakte the, Kashmir mein dhara 370 khatam kar sakte the, ur teen talaq ko khatam kar sakte the? Aap log inke behkave mein na aana(Could these parties build the Ram Temple in Ayodhya? Abrogate Article 370 (of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir) or end triple talaq? Don’t get influenced by them),” Adityanath said.

Alleging that when the Opposition parties were in power, they brought government policies “tailored to suit illegal activities”, Adityanath said: “Now, the mafia and anti-social elements have forgotten how the riots could be engineered. Mafia and criminal elements, who had become a threat to common people during the regime of the SP and BSP governments, are now begging for their lives… Those who thrived by engineering riots before 2017 (when he became the CM) know it very well now that if they even try to repeat such acts… humari sarkar aise logon ko thane mein ulta latakwa degi. Woh jail baad mein jayenge, uss se pehle hi jehanoom chale jayenge (Our government will hang them upside down at police stations. They will be sent to jails later. Before that, they would be sent to hell).”

“There have been no riots and curfew in Uttar Pradesh during the last seven years. No curfew, No danga, UP mein sab changa (No curfew, no riots. All is well in UP,” said the chief minister.

Warming land mafia in the state “to do away with their favourite game in previous regimes of illegally occupying land belonging to the poor”, he said: “Land mafia will have to pay a heavy price if they are found indulging in land grabbing. We will not only recover the collected money but will also build houses for the poor people like we did in Prayagraj,” said Adityanath referring to the seizing of assets of mafia-politician Atiq Ahmed, who was killed in police custody last year.

In a bid to woo farmers, the chief minister said during seven years of his government in the state, he has “ensured that cane growers get their long-pending dues of Rs 2.5 lakh crore”. “This large amount has been given to cane growers during seven years of the BJP government in the state. The Congress, the SP, and the BSP governments could not give this much amount to our farmers in the 22 years of their rule,” he claimed.

Adityanath said that 120 sugar mills are running successfully in the state and out of them “105 mills are clearing dues of cane growers within one week”. “We are trying to make a similar arrangement for payment in the remaining 15 sugar mills. If the owners become defaulters, we will take possession of these mills and will hand over them to cane growers to not only run them but also share the profit through a cooperative,” he said.

Pilibhit and Morabad will go to polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19. In Moradabad, BJP has fielded Tiger Kunwar Sarvesh Singh who lost the 2019 polls to the SP’s ST Hasan. Sarvesh had won from Moradabad in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. This time, he is pitted against SP’s Ruchi Veera.
