Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrives to address an election rally at Sujapur, in Malda district, on Sunday. (Image soucrce: PTI)A day after Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury claimed that BJP was gaining in West Bengal and blamed TMC for it, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused the Congress and CPI(M) of helping the BJP in the state.
Addressing a TMC rally in Kaliachak in Malda district, Mamata said: “In Bengal, we don’t have any alliance with the Congress. Here, the CPI(M) has an alliance with the Congress. Both are hand-in gloves with the BJP… if you cast your vote for Congress or CPI(M), then it means you are voting for BJP. The Congress and CPI(M) are the two eyes of BJP in Bengal.”
“The Congress and CPI(M) leaders here have been speaking in the same voice of the BJP and conspiring against pro-people policies of the TMC government in the state… Do the people of Malda want me to surrender to CPI(M)? We have all endured their atrocities for 34 years. I had told the Congress leadership that I would give them two seats– even though they don’t have a single seat in the Assembly here – and they should not ally with the CPI(M). But they did not listen to us,” she added.
Without naming Adhir Chowdhury, the state Congress chief, Mamata said while the INDIA bloc was alive outside Bengal, the alliance did not exist in Bengal “because of the pro-BJP stance of its state leaders”. She alleged that CPI(M) in collusion with BJP was plotting to stall teaching job recruitment initiatives of the state government. Referring to the Calcutta High Court order cancelling recruitment of over 25,000 teachers in government schools, the chief minister said: “… We will do whatever is required to help these unfortunate youths who gave their labour, their intellect in all these years and are now suddenly being told their job has been taken away. To ensure justice is done,” the TMC supremo said.
“Even if there can be aberrations when we try to find alternative ways to fix it, in the interest of the deserving educated youth, the CPI(M) and BJP rushes in to jeopardise that,” she added
