Lok Sabha Election 2024 Highlights, Phase 1 Voting: With an aggregate 62.37 per cent turnout recorded in Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday thanked voters for the "great response." "Getting EXCELLENT feedback from today’s voting. It’s clear that people across India are voting for NDA in record numbers," Modi said in a post on X. The highest voter turnout during polling under Phase 1 was recorded in Tripura at 80.17 percent, with Bihar witnessing the lowest turnout at 48.50 percent till 9 pm. Meanwhile, a CRPF officer was killed in an IED blast in the Maoist-hit Bastar Lok Sabha constituency in Chhattisgarh on Friday. Devendra Kumar, 32, who was an assistant commandant of the CRPF, was posted near the Chihka polling booth under Bhairamgarh police station limits. Amidst allegations of irregularities and reports of EVMs being destroyed in Manipur, the Election Commission on Friday said that "polling is progressing smoothly and peacefully across all 21 States/UTs in Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha Elections." Meanwhile, complaints of violence, intimidation, and assault poured in from various parts of West Bengal where three constituencies — Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri — went to polls. The election in numbers: The Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha polls include all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, all five seats in Uttarakhand, 12 constituencies in Rajasthan, five in Maharashtra, and all seats in six Northeastern states and three UTs. The Assemblies in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are also going to polls. Of the 102 seats, 18 are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 11 for Scheduled Tribes.
