On the eve of elections in Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged people to support BJP in making Karnataka the number one state, saying its “double engine sarkar” and “decisive focussed and futuristic approach” could contribute to the state’s growth and economy.
In a video message released on Tuesday morning, the Prime Minister said: “The dream of every Kannadiga is my own dream… Your resolution is my resolution.”
With voting set to take place on May 10, campaigning in Karnataka ended on Monday evening. The BJP is in a fierce electoral battle with the Congress to retain power in the state where Janata Dal (Secular) is also in the fray, making it a triangular contest in several constituencies, especially in Mysuru and coastal areas of the state.

In his over eight-minute-long video message, PM Modi, who was involved in a high-pitch campaign in the state in the last few days said the “affection and the blessings” he got from the people have “strengthened resolve to make the state No 1 across all sectors”.
PM Modi said India’s endeavour to be one of the top three economies of the world would be possible only when economic growth in Karnataka gets momentum. “Karnataka is filled with a resolve to take the leadership of developed India. Today, India is the fifth largest economy and we have to reach one among the top three. It is possible when Karnataka’s economy grows fast and reaches the goal of a one trillion dollar economy.”
“You have seen the double-engine government of Karnataka in three-and-a-half years. BJP’s decisive, focused and futuristic policies have played a key role in expanding Karnataka’s economy,” he said, adding that the state under BJP rule has got foreign direct investment (FDI) of Rs 90,000 crore despite the Covid pandemic period while it was nearly Rs 30,000 crore under the previous government.
He said the BJP is committed to Karnataka’s bright future and to make the state number one in “investment, industry and innovation” and is now aiming to make it the primary destination for “education, entrepreneurship and employment.”

Assuring better infrastructure, improved transport facilities and a better quality of life in cities and villages and new opportunities for women and youth, the PM said: “For all this, the BJP government will work with full commitment and honesty. When we set a goal together, no power on earth can stop us from achieving it. Therefore, in order to make Karnataka the number one state in the country, I am seeking your support and blessings,” he said, urging people to come out and vote on May 10.
While evoking the cultural heritage and heroes of Karnataka, including 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, credited as the founder of Bengaluru, PM Modi said it is BJP’s responsibility to honour their heritage while taking it to modernity. With the BJP turning the mention of Bajrang Dal in the Congress manifesto into a poll issue, PM Modi also mentioned “Anjaneya Swamy (Lord Hanuman)” in his brief address.
