Jamui Lok Sabha Constituency: LJP’s Arun Bharti vs RJD’s Archana Ravidas

Jamui, in Bihar, is set to hold the first phase of Lok Sabha elections tomorrow, that is, April 19, Friday, with voting to commence at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m., with an additional hour provided as a buffer period for voters who are already present in the voting line.

In Bihar’s Jamui, an SC category seat in Bihar is set to hold the first phase of Lok Sabha elections tomorrow, that is, April 19, Friday. Voting will commence at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m., in the evening. An additional hour is provided as a buffer period for voters who are already present in the voting line.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) from the opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance has fielded Archana Ravidass in the key constituency while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJP), from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has fielded Arun Bharti, for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, LJP chief Chirag Kumar Paswan emerged victorious by receiving 55.7 per cent of the votes polled. RJD’s Bhudeo Choudhary came second winning 30.4 per cent of the votes and the Bahujan Samaj Party’s Upendra Ravidas came a distant third winning 3.3 per cent of the votes.

Jamui constituency has a total of 17.6 lakh voters, with most being rural voters. The seat comprises six Assembly segments of Tarapur, Sheikpura, Sikandra, Jamui, Jhajha and Chaka with nearly 2.5 lakh EBC voters, with an equal number of OBC Yadav voters, and Koeri, Kurmi and Dhanuk voters.

Arun Bharti, LJP (RV)

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has fielded his brother-in-law Arun Bharti from Jamui seat. The NDA is also in a seat-sharing agreement in Bihar with the Janata Dal-United (JDU) and the LJP for the Lok Sabha polls. The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to contest 17 seats and JD-U 16.

The 48-year-old LJP-RV leader Arun Bharati, an MBA, became active in politics after the demise of his father-in-law Ram Vilas Paswan, the LJP founder and ex-Union minister, in 2020. He then started accompanying his brother-in-law Chirag Paswan, the sitting Jamui MP, during his public outreach in the constituency.

Mahagathbandhan candidate Archana Ravidas of the RJD has been fielded from Jamui. Ravidas is the wife of the local RJD leader Mukesh Yadav, and is contesting the Lok Sabha election for the first time.

The Mahagathbandhan, the opposition coalition in Bihar, including RJD, Congress, and Left parties, announced that the RJD, its largest constituent, will contest 26 out of the state’s 40 Lok Sabha seats in the elections.
