In the last Lok Sabha elections, the seat was won by Kapil Krishna Thakur of the AITC by a margin of 146601 votes. Kapil Krishna Thakur defeated CPM candidate Debesh Das. West Bengal had registered 82.17 % voting in 2014 general elections. With a vote share of 41.92 %, All India Trinamool Congress had topped the results tally with 34 seats, followed by Indian National Congress (4 seats) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (2 seats).
