You are listening to the Expresso Entertainment Update. Here is the latest news from the world of South Indian Cinema brought to you by The Indian Express.
“Here is the top news of the day: Director Nelson Dilipkumar has shared a picture from a dinner party that was hosted by Tamil superstar Vijay. Dilipkumar also tweeted a note about his latest movie Beast.

The note read, “Thank you Vijay sir for hosting us. It was a fun-filled and memorable evening with the whole team. I take this moment to thank Vijay sir for his love and support. You were a charm to work with sir. I am truly honored & I shall cherish this experience for life.”” Vijay’s dinner party was also attended by the film’s female lead Pooja Hegde, supporting actors VTV Ganesh and Satish and music composer Anirudh Ravichander.

“Speaking of Beast, the film managed to make a dent at the box office during the weekend in Tamil Nadu. After a robust opening weekend, the collection fell drastically, owing to the growing popularity of Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2 in the state.

However, the demand for Beast picked up on Saturday and Sunday with some theatres reporting houseful shows. According to Cinetrak, Beast earned roughly over Rs 3 crore during the weekend with nearly 50 per cent occupancy, taking its collections in Tamil Nadu to Rs 112 crore in 12 days. The movie is said to have emerged as a profitable venture for all the stakeholders. The worldwide collection of the film is said to be over Rs 230 crore.

“Moving on, Actor Suriya sought the blessings and support of his fans as the remake of his hit film Soorarai Pottru went on floors. His home production 2D Entertainmnet will bankroll the project and it will star Bollywood star Akshay Kumar in the lead.

Akshay had also announced the beginning of the filming of the project, which is yet to be titled. He tweeted saying: “With the auspicious coconut-breaking and a small prayer in our heart, we begin the filming of our yet untitled film which is about dreams and the power of it In case you’ll have any title suggestions, do share and of course your best wishes,”.”
Actor Ram Charan, who is basking in the success of RRR, is all set to entertain the audience again with Chiranjeevi-starrer Acharya. The Matinee Entertainments production marks Charan’s first collaboration with director Koratala Siva. Ahead of the release of Acharya in cinemas on April 29, the Rangasthalam actor interacted with media in Hyderabad. He said “I would like to thank director SS Rajamouli for allowing me to shoot for Acharya, amidst the filming of RRR. Siva and I wanted to work together ever since the release of Mirchi. But the collaboration got delayed due to other commitments. Having me in Acharya was a requirement of the story, and the opportunity of working with dad in this film came as a blessing in disguise.”
“More news on Acharya film: In an interview with ABN Entertainment, Director Koratala Siva explained by Kajal Aggarwal is missing from the film. He said: “In commercial aspects for any movie, there will be a heroine, love and love interests. But for a character like Acharya, a love story shouldn’t be there, and it won’t be there. Initially, Kajal’s role was designed as a funny character in Dharmasthali. But after shooting for 3 to 4 days, a doubt about (purpose of) her role popped up. She understood my concern in a positive way.” Acharya is slated to release in theatres on April 29.

“Moving on, Superhit Malayalam movie Summer in Bethlehem will have a second part. Producer Siyad Kokker announced the sequel of the 1998 movie which had Jayaram, Suresh Gopi, and Manju Warrier in lead roles. Mohanlal also appeared in a cameo role in the movie. Late actor Kalabhvan Mani, Sukumari, and Janardhanan also played pivotal characters. Siyad Koker said Manju Warrier is like a family member to him even though Summer in Bethlehem was the only movie that saw their collaboration. He also assured that Manju Warrier will be a part of Summer in Bethlehem 2 and the discussions for a sequel are on.

“Meanwhile, the teaser of the upcoming movie Meri Awas Suno with Manju Warrier and Jayasuriya in the lead roles has been released. Written and directed by G Prajesh Sen, the film has Jayasuriya playing the role of a radio jockey named Shankar. Su Su Sudhi Valmeekam fame SShivada will also play an important role in the movie. Vinod Illampally will handle the camera for Meri Awas Suno while Bijith Bala does the editing. M Jayachandran will compose the music for the movie.
