WWE NXT Highlights: The May 28 (May 29 in India) episode of WWE NXT came out as a box full of surprises for the fans. The show featured multiple segments featuring the superstars no one expected to see. The show is on its road for their next big PLE (Premier Live Event) NXT Battleground, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 9, at UFC Apex Arena in Las Vegas. One of the biggest matches to take place at NXT Battleground is the 6-women ladder match to crown the inaugural WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion. Four of the six contenders for the match had already booked their place by last week, while the final two places also received their rightful owners after the conclusion of the two qualifying matches scheduled to take place this week.
Here are the top 5 moments from this week’s WWE NXT.

Last night’s NXT kicked off with the famous rapper and long-term WWE fan Sexyy Red unveiling the new NXT Women’s North American title before Tatum Paxley sneaked up on her in an attempt to snatch the title away. However, Michin came out to rescue Red and start her qualification match with Paxley. Paxley and Tatum went back and forth, with the unpredictable Paxley attempting to put away her opponent on many occasions, but Michin, being the veteran she is, had the perfect counter for all the attacks before delivering the final blow of her own to punch her ticket for Vegas. The second qualifying match of the night featured two high-flying young superstars, Kelani Jordan and Wren Sinclair, who also went all in from the get-go to get the W. Kelani, who at moments was distracted by Fallon Henely’s presence at the commentator’s desk during the match somehow managed to edge past the rising star and became the final competitor in the 6-women ladder match at Battleground.

After weeks of passive aggression, Ridge Holland and Chase U member Riley Osborne finally squared off inside the ring in an attempt to settle the misunderstanding between each other. Ridge took control of the match early, but Railey made a comeback with a clothesline of his own. Riley, who preferred to keep himself airborne during his matches, showed a very aspect of his character as he kept himself on the ground in order to beat Ridge in his own game to prove his point. However, despite all his efforts, the Chase U superstar proved to be no match for Ridge, as the latter ended up pinning him to secure the win. Ridge Holland extended his hand for a handshake with Riley post-match, but Riley and Duke walked away from there, leaving Thea Hail and Andre Chase inside the ring with Holland.

In a backstage segment, The OC (Luke Gallows and Carl Anderson) was shown giving an interview and talking about their attack on the NXT Tag Champs last week. The former tag team champions pointed out that they took out Axiom and Frazer to gain their attention and remind them that if they keep ignoring them. The OC also mentioned that until Axiom and Frazer doesn’t give them the title match, they will keep attacking them whenever they feel like it before making their way into the ring for their match against Malik Blade and Edris Enofe. The OC picked up an easy win but was attacked by Frazer and Axiom after the match. The NXT Tag Team Champions said that they had tolerated enough shenanigans of the OC and were ready to fight them for the titles at NXT Battleground.

The NXT Women’s Champion, Roxanne Perez, made her way into the ring complaining about how every other champion before her only used the NXT Women’s title as a stepping stone to get to their other goals, unlike her, who fights for the championship because she loves NXT. She also said that the management is eagerly waiting for her to lose before calling out the General Manager, Ava and asking about her next challenge. Ava came out and called Roxanne a great champion before revealing her challenger at NXT Battleground, which turned out to be none other than the TNA Knockouts Champion, Jordynne Grace. Grace also called Roxanne an excellent champ and mentioned that Roxanne is not very different from her as they have almost the same career trajectory in their respective companies. Jordan then said that although their story is almost the same, she would like to find out whose foundation is stronger when she challenges Roxanne for the NXT Women’s title match at Battleground.

After Noam Dar of Meta Four was attacked two weeks ago, the other group members, except Lash Legend, were accusing the NXT champion Trick Williams of being the attacker. However, the landscape changed last week when Gallus attacked Trick Williams, convincing the Meta Four that they also attacked Noam backstage. Meta Four confronts Gallus this week, but the latter denied the allegation, shifting the blame again on Trick. After some time, Oro Mensah of Meta Four was also attacked backstage, forcing Lash to ask Trick directly if he was attacking the Meta Four members. After Trick and Jevon Evans defeated Gallus in the main event of the night, Lash comes out to ask Trick the truth, but before Trick can say anything, the light goes out and when it comes back Trick was being attacked by the debutant, “All Ego” Ethan Page, who accepted that he attacked Noam and Mensah backstage before delivering another vicious attack on Trick to close the show.
