Watch: US-led coalition trains Iraqi troops to breach Islamic State defences

US-led coalition troops have adapted their training for Iraqi forces to teach them how to breach Islamic State defences in large-scale combined assaults on jihadist strongholds in Iraq.

The video shows live fire exercises being held by the troops to breach the jihadi fighters. Lieutenant General Sean MacFarland in the video says that the training is based on lessons learnt by the troops watching the challenges in Ramadi and Tikrit and Sinjar and Baiji.

“The aim of these exercises of this kind is to practice integrating infantry, armour, and combine the effects on an enemy force,” added MacFarland.

Ramadi was captured by Islamic State militants in May 2015 and was recaptured from them by the Iraqi forces in December 2015.

Coalition forces have been training Iraqi troops since 2014.
