Parliament secretariat sources said the House will initiate the process that may be completed the same day. The Nepali congress — the biggest party in the House, which entered into an alliance with the Maoists — has backed Dahal as the Prime Ministerial candidate and with Madhesi groups and others falling in line, Dahal securing a comfortable majority in athe House with an effective strength of 598 is a foregone conclusion.

K P Oli, who headed the left dominated alliance for nine months beginning October last year, resigned last week after Maoist Party pulled out of the alliance and moved a no confidence motion against him in the House.
