The United Kingdom (UK) has voted to leave the European Union after a long partnership of 42 years. It was a tight contest which ended with around 48 per cent voting in favour of remaining a part of EU and around 52 per cent voting against it. The polarised voting trend also manifested itself in terms of how the four different countries that are part of the Great Britain voted. While England and Wales voted to leave the Union, majority of Scotland voters went it support it. Northern Ireland voters also showed a similar sentiment as of Scotland. Here is a quick breakup of how the different regions in UK voted: Scotland - Out of all the regions in UK, Scotland turned out to be the only one which gave a clear majority in favour of remaining a part of the EU. A total of 62 per cent voters opted for 'remain' while the rest 38 per cent voted for 'leave'. However, even after voting for 'remain', Scotland will also have to leave the European Union because of the overall score. London - The capital of England which also had the smallest number of voters showed a contradictory stance in comparison to other parts of the country. About 60 per cent of people who voted on Thursday chose to 'remain' a part of EU and the other 40 per cent went for the option of leaving it.
