As heightened public unrest over the weekend brought Bangladesh on the boil, a mob of protesters was seen vandalising a statue of the country’s first President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Monday.

Student demonstrations spiralled into deadly clashes between the anti-government protesters and the police in Bangladesh on Sunday, killing close to 100 people.

The tensions escalated further on Monday, prompting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and leave the country.

A crowd of protesters took over the streets, stormed Dhaka Palace and was even seen bringing down a statue of Hasina’s father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman — the video of which has now gone viral on social media.
